It's crunch time at Gami Chicken & Beer

The impossible just happened: fried chicken just got better with the opening of Gami Chicken & Beer at The Piazza.

That’s right, the Melbourne sensation brings its crunchy signature Korean fried chicken to the good people of The Hills and naturally we had the tough job of ‘quality control’ to bring you the best of Gami’s sticky, crunchy, tender, double-deep fried bird.

It’s easy to see why Gami has developed a cult following with its signature whole fowl, and for first timers we suggest bringing a friend to devour the flavoured whole chicken which comes with two flavours of your choice. Best of both worlds.

Speaking of sauces, in the words of MKR’s Manu, ‘give me the sauce’! The names are simple: soy garlic, sweet chilli, and spicy, but they pack a flavour punch that will take you right to the streets of Korea. Insider tip: choose your flavour as a glaze for one delicious hot mess.

Portions are generous and suitable for sharing, that’s if you can bear to part with anything on your plate. While it’s tempting to bypass sides to make more room for fried chicken, the coleslaw and pickled radish are a great balance to the salty crunch.

All that eating’s probably worked up a thirst, so wash it down with a Thunder Road ale, served on tap from a colossal Instagrammable keg, and specially brewed for Gami from the Thunder Road flagship brew house in Brunswick.

Think there’s nothing for the vegetarian in your life, think again! The veggie fried chicken features the same tasty Gami coat and is served with a black sweet sauce and green salad with apple dressing so no one has to miss out.

Gami also has a surprisingly large mains menu including Kimchi pancakes with pickled cabbage and veggies in a traditional Korean pancake batter. On a cool evening the Spicy Seafood Soup, featuring sweet potato noodles and plenty of seafood plus Gami’s signature Korean zing, will warm every bone in the body.

The selection of lighter bites are perfect to fuel a shopping marathon and can be shared on the run, (we are in Castle Towers people)!  With guaranteed 100% RSPCA approved chicken, you can be sure that the chickens are raised and treated with kindness.

Gami is the perfect little slice of Korea to kick back and relax. Best enjoyed with company (so you can order ALL THE FOWL) like they do in Korea. Open seven days for lunch and dinner until 10pm at The Piazza.
