Unwrapped 1998

For thoughts that count this Christmas.

Given in 1998, played by Victoria ever since.

“Mum gave me this violin when I was 13. It was the violin she learnt to play on when she was a little girl, and she used it to teach me and my two sisters. We actually still play together in a string group today.

Part of the reason I love it so much is that it reminds me of Mum. When I was 16, I was an exchange student in Germany and became quite homesick. I remember I’d smell my violin because it reminded me of home.

It’s the one thing that’s been there through all the important stages of my life. I’ve played it at my sister’s wedding, my children’s baptisms, and all of my grandparents’ funerals. And I’m now using it to teach my own children the violin.”
